Why go deeper

Confidence comes from reps, not notes.

Twelve hours of guided practice with adolescents in mind: the difference between knowing the model and working it when a teenager gives you nothing.

See it done.

Live demonstrations, modelled by experienced clinicians, using composite cases.

Practise with feedback.

Work in twos and threes in breakout rooms, with both presenters dropping in to coach.

Bring the hard one.

Bring a de-identified young person you are stuck with, especially the one who will not engage.

What you'll gain

Know your next move with a young person who gives you nothing.

✓Engage reluctant, mandated and sent young people from the first session.
✓Use sand tray and symbol work with young people who will not talk.
✓Use drawing, writing and collage to externalise and re-author.
✓Hold expression and containment safely in emotional release work.
✓Make CBT relevant to teenagers, in their register and after the felt work.
✓Sequence complex cases, and hold ethics, risk and scope throughout.
The curriculum

Six fortnightly sessions, each building on the last.

Thursdays 28 January, 11 February, 4 March, 18 March, 1 April and 15 April 2027, 11am to 1pm Sydney time. Each two-hour session pairs a live demonstration with supervised practice in breakout rooms.

1

Engagement and the proactive cycle

Engaging the reluctant, the mandated and the sent, and locating where a young person is stuck.

2

Symbolic work: sand tray and symbol

Reaching the young person who cannot, or will not, put it into words. Arranging beats explaining.

3

Creative work: drawing, writing and collage

Externalising and re-authoring, in the young person’s own creative world.

4

Emotional Release Counselling: expression and containment

Using emotional release safely with teenagers, and holding the containment that makes it safe.

5

CBT, made relevant for teens

Catch, test and rehearse, collaboratively, in their register, and after the felt work.

6

Putting it together: complex cases, sequencing, ethics and risk

Formulation, sequence, risk and safety, taken all the way through with a composite case and your own.
