Why this webinar exists
In the evidence base, paediatric OCD responds strongly to exposure and response prevention and yet it's one of the conditions we most often miss. In a British nationwide survey, roughly nine in ten children with OCD had not been identified (Heyman et al., 2001).
It hides. Children are ashamed of the thoughts and become expert at concealing the rituals, so it can sit undiagnosed for years while a family quietly reorganises itself around it. And when it is spotted, many clinicians reach for general anxiety work or open-ended talk and the compulsions quietly carry on.
The treatment with the strongest evidence base is exposure and response prevention. No and we're deliberately clear about that. This webinar teaches exposure and response prevention as a modality and how to use it skilfully inside the work you already do, which is genuinely valuable and evidence-informed. It is not certification in a specific manualised programme. Use ERP within your training and competence, keep risk assessment and safety planning running alongside the work, and refer on where presentation is severe, entrenched or outside your scope.
